Tim ThrelfallPROFESSOR, THEATRE: CHAIR MDT STEERING COMMITTEE

Prior to joining the BYU faculty, Tim served as the Artistic Director for Seattle Civic Light Opera, and Northwest Summer Playhouse, as well as Education Programs Coordinator for Seattle Children’s Theatre, and a member of the AEA acting ensemble at Seattle’s Bathhouse Theatre for three years. He holds an MFA from the Professional Actor Training Program at the University of Washington under the direction of Robert L. Hobbs and Jack Clay. For the past 12  years, Tim has directed such shows as AidaBeauty and the Beast,  Big River and Grease at Tuacahn Center for the Arts in St. George, UT. Countless BYU alumni and students have worked at Tuacahn, which operates under a LORT contract with Actors’ Equity Association and auditions in New York and Los Angeles each season. Tim was recently seen in the film Redemption as well as the lead role of Bishop Aaron Young in the LDS market film One Good Man. He has also appeared in numerous LDS Church films like the popular missionary film, The Restoration. Tim also appeared in multiple episodes of the television series “Everwood” and “Touched By An Angel.” In addition, he directed the BYU Broadcasting production of the new musical, Berlin, which won an Emmy, CINE Golden Eagle, and Telly Award, Other BYU directing credits include, Peter PanChildren of EdenDancing at LughnasaQuilters, and the television production Hancock County. Tim directed the university premiere of Andrew Llyod Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at BYU in 2012. This last year, Tim also directed the American Premiere of Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn’s new musical The Count of Monte Cristo here at BYU. In the summer of 2010, Tim appeared in the role of Noah with six-time Tony Award winning actress Audra McDonald and Tony nominee Will Swenson as they reprised their Broadway roles in the musical 110 In the Shade in Utah. He recently received training in the Meisner acting method of actor and recently participated in the London Theatre Study Abroad program. Tim also began the BFA Senior Showcase in New York City for graduating BFA actors and Music Dance Theatre students thirteen years ago.  He continues to direct the program with Rachel Hoffman of Telsey and Company Casting as the New York consultant for the annual Showcase. Tim is a member of Actors’ Equity Association; Screen Actor’s Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, (SAG/AFTRA) and Stage Directors and Choreographer’s Society (SDC).”
